Pedro García, 62, and his wife, Beatriz, are members of St. John Parish in Clarion. They were married January 20, 1972. They have four children: María Beatriz, Eduardo, Alejandra, and María. They have three grandchildren. García was born in Lima, Peru. He graduated from the American School of Lima—Franklin D. Roosevelt and from the university Nacional Agraria, where he majored in animal science.
He is employed by the Iowa Select Farms. In his parish he is a minister of Communion, helps coordinate Mass in Spanish, and assists with Hispanic baptismal preparation.
In the community, he serves as interpreter in the county jail and sheriff’s office and at the Wright Medical Center in Clarion. He is a member of the parish choir. He serves as contact person for the Immigration Network.
His diaconate ministry includes Hispanic ministry, jail and prison ministry hospital visitation, family integration, and sacramental preparation.
Gerald Temeyer
Gerald Temeyer, 64, is a member of Sacred Heart Parish, Eagle Grove. He and his late wife Kathleen are parents of three: Pauline, Tim and Joe. He has three grandchildren.
Temeyer was born in Independence and graduated from Don Bosco High School in Gilbertville. He graduated from the University of Iowa and is employed as a traffic manager for Decker Truck Line of Fort Dodge.
Parish ministries have included RCIA, Haiti committee, sacristan, lector, Bible study, parish council, and Renew 2000. As a deacon, he will on the RCIA team, be a Hospice volunteer, preside at vigil services, visit those in hospital and long-term care facilities, and serve on both the Social Concerns Committee and the Stewardship Committee at Sacred Heart and St. John Parishes.
